November 5 and 6, 2011

Saturday, November 5th was a blur. Michael was cranky. We were cranky. We moved rooms. Just all together, a not-so-good day. We took Michael out for the first time to the shopping center across the street from the hotel, Unicentro. We all had on our LSU gear, and the folks at the reception desk thought it was so neat. We explained to them that LSU was playing Alabama in the biggest game of the year. Ford would say CENTURY. After we got Michael to sleep, Ford and I listened to the game online through LSU Sports radio announced by longtime radio host, Jim Hawthorne. It was so funny to watch Ford not be able to yell or scream at the computer, especially when Hawthorne would make one of his infamous wrong calls. Hands were flying everywhere. I told some friends earlier that it was a pretty good game of charades. ;) When the ending touchdown was called, Ford and I jumped up and down..........then, it was called back. We really felt like idiots. ;) Ha. Then, we really ended the night with the WIN, and then sacked out. It was also Brian and Rebecca's wedding anniversary, so HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Uncle Brian and Aunt Becky!

Today was much better. Michael slept through the night. We woke up about 6:00 a.m. to him blabbering to himself in his crib. We just laid there and laughed quietly for a while. We took Michael out again today, this time in a stroller which he loved. When we got to the reception desk, the lady (same one from yesterday) said "Louisiana won!" She then told us she had met a man from Alabama earlier that was not very happy. She told him there was a couple from Louisiana also staying here, and he just looked at her grumpily and said "eh." We laughed. ;) Again, small world indeed.

With Michael in the stroller, we walked around Unicentro for over an hour, ate a late lunch, picked up some dinner for later, got some ice cream from McDonald's (the McFlurries in Colombia are WAY better than in the United States - they mix chocolate syrup in them), and headed "home" for the day. We even gave Michael a little taste of the ice cream. Of course, he loved it, but I bet he loved the cold on his gums more.

We talked to Gram, Pop, Blake, Carrie, Ava, Papa Ford, Nana, PawPaw, Mamai and finally Aunt Corri on Skype! Corri just loved Michael and talked and talked to him. We can't wait for her to babysit. ;)

We knew the day couldn't be this sane, right?! After dinner, Ford was washing some things in the kitchen sink and the entire sink fell through its hole and water went EVERYWHERE. I might have seen some steam come out of his ears, and he might have said a few choice words. ;) We called the front desk, and they immediately sent a maintenance person up to us. While he was there, he looked at me while I was holding Michael and he said "Bebe, American?" I said, "No, Colombian." He looked at me questioningly and I said "Adopcion. Chiquitines." He broke into the biggest smile and said "You and husband are angels." I will never forget this sweet man. He didn't know much English, but he know how to say those wonderful, touching words.

So our sink is being completely repaired tomorrow. Our new room is about 3 times the size as our last one. All in all, things are looking good. ;) Three days until we send the official adoption decree to the Colombian courts here in Cali.

Ford and I agree that the hardest thing is being so far away from our family and friends. We didn't expect that part to be hard, but we are very homesick. Every day is a day closer to you all though. Keep us in your hearts. We love you all!

  1. Oh my goodness! What a weekend you had!!! :( Small glimmers of kindness from the folks there helped I'm sure. Please know that I am thinking of you EVERY hour of the day, wondering what you're doing, how you're doing... how Michael is managing.. if Ford is taking care of you. ;) Each day that passes is just one day closer to you coming home. Love you so much!
